ASH GRUNWALD – MOJO ALBUM TOUR @ LEIGH SAWMILL CAFE
Dec 1 @ 6:00 pm

Ash Grunwald at the Sawmill CafeWith SWAMPTHING!

Blues maestro Ash Grunwald will play four headline shows across the North Island in support of his new album ‘Mojo’ – out on August 30 – and we’re thrilled to be one
With unique storytelling through song and unleashing an avalanche of rhythmic fury on guitar, Ash will bring his brand-new show to life for Kiwi’s this Summer.

Fans can expect to hear brand new tunes from the upcoming album Mojo, including the latest single ‘Whispering Voice’ (feat. Kasey Chambers) as well as old stomping Ash G favourites ‘Walking’ and ‘Money’.

Recorded in the US and Australia, Mojo is Ash’s first new studio album in four years and features guest appearances by The Teskey Brothers, Mahalia Barnes and Joe Bonamassa amongst others. Of the record, Ash says…

“At this point, Mojo represents a journey through my own valley of darkness, and out the other side into the fresh sunlit glory of optimism and positivity. This may sound like a cliché, but when you’ve lived it it feels very different.”

Joining Ash on all dates, will be kiwi blues and roots duo Swamp Thing. Made up of multi-instrumentalist Michael Barker and guitar virtuoso Brett Adams, Swamp Thing play every show as if it was their last. With a resume including stints with Split Enz, The Mockers, John Butler Trio and Tami Neilson between them, these guys certainly have a wealth of musical experience.

Get in quick for this limited capacity show – on sale Friday 19 July @ 12pm.

RACING & MINI SIMMONS @ LEIGH SAWMILL CAFE
Dec 27 @ 9:30 pm

Racing & Mini Simmons at the Sawmill CafeAuckland-based tropicalia groove maestros Racing are back on the road this summer for an
onslaught of shows across the nation, and are being joined by blues rock 60s & 70s
guitar wranglers Mini Simmons and we’re stoked to nab a date with both!

RACING, who are finalists for best rock artist in the 2019 New Zealand Music Awards – take rock and roll and inject it with a chemical haze so potent the listener is left both pleased and punished. Once likened to “the thoughts of a crocodile in flood season”, Racing crafts a swirling sea of groove and hypnosis into rock anthems drenched in weird tropical dance music.

MINI SIMMONS is a loose nod to the 60’s. They have been making significant waves in 2019 with wild response to their debut album (the first pressed to vinyl in New Zealand since 1987) and having recently taken the stage at Spark Arena for the 2019 Silver Scrolls Awards, where they re-worked & performed Benee’s breakout pop smash ‘Soaked’.

ENO x DIRTY CHURCH & A.P @ LEIGH SAWMILL CAFE
Jan 9 @ 9:00 pm

Eno x Dirty Church & AP at the Sawmill CafeTwo of NZ hip-hop’s heavyweight duo’s, Eno x Dirty and Church & AP are joining forces for one night only at the Mill and we are stoked!

Since the release of their debut album ‘Evil Adventures and Happy Endings’ in 2017, Grey Lynn heroes Eno x Dirty have been selling out shows all across the country (and a couple in Asia), performing at festivals like Rhythm and Vines, smashing streaming records and shifting units with no signs of slowing. Eno x Dirty’s ‘Honest To Whom’ is their first full project since 2017’s ridiculous debut. Are they albums? Are they EPS? Who knows. Recorded at Red Bull Studios in Auckland with Ben Lawson, the single Get That Cash is an abrasive and constantly changing hook driven beast, showcasing one of Eno’s first times in front of the mic. “‘Honest To Whom’ is a reflection of where and who we are now. It’s the first time we will be releasing something free of the feeling the material is old to us, instead we are proud to stand next it like a 4 year old showing his parents the macaroni painting he did at kindy that day.”

Church and AP met on the first day of high school in 2013 over a shared appreciation for Chance the Rapper. They started creating music together and individually, Church was handpicked by David Dallas for Red Bull 64 Bars, spent all the time they could soaking up the local hip hop scene, and then started releasing music on the internet and playing sell-out gigs. The industry and hip hop fans took notice. Last summer they released their first official single ‘Ready or Not’ which went straight into the New Zealand singles charts, spent two months on Mai FM’s A rotation playlist, was playlisted across Spotify and Apple and made the New Music Friday cover for Spotify Australia and New Zealand. The track hit #1 on Shazam as people tried to work out who was making this brilliant new music that has garnered more than three million streams. Now, six years on from that first meeting, Church & AP are poised to become New Zealand’s latest hip hop heavyweights with their collective YKK. Their debut album Teeth came out on the 15 November.
