The Leigh Coastal Walk was followed by a Fire Brigade Open Day.

At the old Leigh Hotel carpark, Warkworth Fire Brigade demonstrated the use of their “jaws of life” on a vehicle.

Later, smoke poured out of the Leigh Hotel. Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade demonstrated their new compressed air foam as volunteers turned the hotel white.

Several times this summer Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade members have used their new compressed air foam truck and found it great for putting out fires very quickly.

Thanks to everyone for their registrations to the Leigh Coastal Walk and their generous donations to the Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Goat Island Coastal Walkway

The Leigh Coastal Walk was held on Saturday 20th April on a beautiful sunny day.

Over 70 people registered for the event and enjoyed the spectacular views of the Goat Island Coastal Walkway. Local businesses donated over 50 prizes so there were plenty of lucky winners! Thanks to all who volunteered to help us on our inaugural Leigh Coastal Walk event. We plan to make this an annual event so keep in touch as we add our plans for a bigger and better event in 2014.

All proceeds from the day are donated to the Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade. Fires – Medicals – Rescues

You just have to register to be in for a prize. A “Leigh Weekend For Two” package has been put together for a lucky couple to stay in a local bed & breakfast while enjoying some of the activities in the area. Whangateau Holiday Park have donated an accommodation package for a family valued at $475. Other donations include bottles of wine, pizzas, home cooked meal, books, calendars, glass bottom boat tickets, entry to the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre, PADI guided snorkel experiences, accommodations including bed & breakfast and campgrounds, a helicopter ride, beach chairs, gift packs, smoke detectors and much more!

All proceeds will go to the Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade who will have an Open Day in the afternoon following the walk.

Summer is not over yet, but as the days cool down, this is now the ideal time to check out one of Leigh’s best walks – the Goat Island Coastal track that has been recently upgraded and the Farm Loop Walk.

Register and join us for a guided walk, choosing between the shorter or longer walks.

The guided walks run regularly from 9am to 12 noon, giving you time to enjoy the other activities that Goat Island Marine Reserve has to offer. All proceeds go to the Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade

The Fire Brigade Open Day will begin at 2.30pm followed by a Sausage Sizzle at the Leigh Fire Station. See our upcoming events for further information and to register.

At 2.30pm at the old Leigh Hotel carpark between Cumberland and Totara Sts, Warkworth Fire Brigade will demonstrate the removal of a patient from a motor vehicle, using the equipment on their rescue tender.

This will be followed by a demonstration of Leigh’s new compressed air foam fire truck in Leigh School grounds.

Everyone is invited to a sausage sizzle at the Leigh Fire Station afterwards.
